If We Didn’t Have to Sleep

Totally speculative question: if we didn’t have to sleep, would we have houses?

Houses serve a lot of functions. We usually eat in our domicile. We store things there, entertain in them, sometimes work there, and raise children there.

But those things are accessories to the central factor of our homes: a place where we sleep about 1/3 of our lives.

Sleep is a mystery of our lives. We are only beginning to understand what it is and why we need it. But need it we do, and it shapes our lives. Including, probably, our homes.
