Why Politicians Don’t Write Songs

The original song ‘Greensleeves’ is not well known, either here or in England. Most of us know the tune Greensleeves, set to the Christmas song, ‘What Child Is This.’

But what makes this song interesting is a persistent legend that English king Henry VIII wrote the original version. It’s an interesting story, and while any woman who was the object of Hank’s attention is not exactly unique, we sort of want to believe it. Never mind that it’s an Italian tune variety that hadn’t reached English shores before he was dead. We just want to believe that a governmental official could write something that we’d be talking about 500 years later.

Because when we survey the pygmies who rule over us now, the idea that any of them could even express emotion without a teleprompter is laughable.

I’ll pick on the Brits first. Imagine, say, John Minor, or Boris Johnson or Treason May putting out a song. In 500 years, people will still be studying Thatcher, but no one could ever think of her doing a love song.

It’s just as bad on this side of the pond. Hillary Clinton? Barack Obama? John McCain? Jeb Bush? I need to stop; I’m frightening the children. Even President Trump, who does quite well without a teleprompter, is not someone I would trust to write a love song, although he’s had a fair amount of experience with the matter.

Please meditate on this. We look on politicians and government leaders as people who are Above Us, better than us, more intelligent, creative, and who knows what else.

They are not.

As a class, these people are parasites. The lowliest lounge singer provides more value to society than your average office holder. Stop admiring them, stop expecting good from them, and live your life.
