Changing Minds and Tribes

The way we think is usually bound up with those we are around. People we work with, worship with, live with.

Which is why it is so hard to make large, life changing pivots in the way we think. Because to change our mind is to lose our friends.

Not in small ways, of course: what I am talking about here is the largest, Damascus road life changes. Even St Paul required a personal visit from Jesus, and Paul, when he returned, 180 degree changed, the Christians at Jerusalem were terrified of him.

He required new friends. And he got them. But not easily.

Remember this when we are asking people to change their mind about something significant. You are asking them to change their tribe. What are we giving them in return?
